LNG SAFETY HEARING

A public hearing and risk analysis of potential safety and environmental impacts associated with the development and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving/processing/storage facility located on the shore, or in the near-shore waters of Washington County will be held Thursday, August 26, from 7 to 10 pm, in the Multi-Purpose Room, Washington County Marine Trades Center, Deep Cove Road, Eastport.

The hearing will be conducted by the Washington County Emergency Planning Committee (WCEPC).  The WCEPC is charged with implementing the provisions of the Federal Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act of 1986.  The law requires communities and states to assume the basic responsibility for understanding risks posed by chemicals at the local level, for managing those risks, for reducing those risks, and for dealing with emergencies.  By developing emergency planning and risk management at the levels of government closest to the community, the law helps to ensure the broadest possible public representation in the decision-making process.  For further information, contact the Washington County Emergency Management Agency at  (207) 255-3931, or by e-mail at wnema@maineline.net.  Washington County makes all of its programs and facilities accessible to persons who qualify under the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
